Mental Health First Aid presented by Lydia Fuqua, Ariel Cohn, Liz Jerome, and Abigayle Jackson of DCCCA.
On average 130 people die by suicide every day, from 1999 to 2019 841,000 people died from drug overdoses, and nearly 1 in 5 in the United States live with a mental health diagnosis. For these reasons it is important for non-clinically trained individuals in our communities to understand common mental health diagnosis, have tools to interact with empathy, recognize signs or signals of a person’s need for assistance. It teaches participants know where to turn when a friend, family member or co-worker is in need of assistance.
